Hooping the Unhoopable: Cosmo bags

posted by Suzi_Homemaker on February 22 Hints from Suzi Homemaker

The recent survey results indicated that a number of customers had questions on the "stitchability" of mint products on home embroidery machines. Suzi Homemaker actually started out stitching on a Viking Designer SE and I can attest to the fact that all of the products in the mint line can be stitched on home machines using sticky stabilizer, a little manipulation and a lot of pins.

Take the darling Cosmo Bag, for starters.

Load design onto embroidery machine or key in letters. Rotate design, if necessary, so that letters will be parallel to zipper on cosmo bag.

Hoop a piece of sticky stabilizer using the 100 x 100 frame. Score and peel away paper layer to reveal sticky backing.

Mark center point on cosmo bag, turn inside out and line up with center of hoop using grid embroidery template.

Pin bag in place and carefully slide onto embroidery unit ensuring that edges of bag are kept out of the embroidery field.  (You may need to hold edges back as machine stitches.)

Fire away!

When stitching is done, carefully remove bag from sticky backing (so you can re-use), turn right side out, clip jump threads and send on to your happy customer.

Anyone else have a cat that eats stabilizer? It never *ends* well. One time she swallowed some ribbon and when it had *processed* I had to remove it using surgical gloves. Picture one of those retractable measuring tapes..oh the horror!
